Akita Innovations is producing a variety of acetone-soluble polyimides

Akita Innovations is producing a variety of acetone-soluble polyimides.  Traditional polyimides are not soluble in non-toxic, non-VOC organic solvents, and are typically prepared as the polyamic acid precursors requiring a high-temperature thermal step to produce the polyimides.  The Akita polyimides allow users to work directly with polyimides without thermal processing and using common solvents, facilitating their use as binders and potentially in coatings and composites.  Initial uses for these polyimides has been as high Tg binders for amorphous energetic materials.  Their Tgs can reach ~245°C and they have excellent thermos-mechanical properties, and we have nitrated them for compatibility with nitrated energetic compounds.
