North Billerica — Akita Innovations has won a State-funded grant for product commercialization, which will allow it to get its cutting-edge antifog coating technology to the commercial market. The $100,000 award is from the MassVentures START program, which has awarded more than $15 million to 70 Massachusetts firms that have received funding from the federal government’s Small Business Innovation Research program, according to a news release from the state. The program helps those firms bridge the gap between the innovation work funded by the federal government and commercialization of the products that result. Only 12 of 62 applicants received the highly competitive Stage 1 award this year. Akita is going to use its START funding to conduct market research and file IP protection for the technology.
